The annual CP+ Camera & Photo Imaging Show, the world’s largest imaging trade fair, is a four-day spectacle of the latest and greatest advancements in technology and marketing. 

Major camera companies erect massive, fully-staffed, interactive booths to expose their products and ethos to the tens of thousands of people who attend the four-day fair.  To say that it’s somewhat overwhelming is an understatement.  

 

世界最大級のカメラと写真の見本市「CP+」は、最新技術とマーケティングの粋を集めた、4日間にわたる壮大なイベントです。

主要カメラメーカーは巨大でスタッフ完備の体験型ブースを構え、4日間で何万人もの来場者に向けて、自社製品とその思想をアピールする場でもあります。「少し圧倒される」と言うのは、控えめすぎる表現でしょう。

 

 

The 2026 fair saw further development in the realm of video capture- tinier, higher-spec cameras could be seen mounted to the usual gimbals, long sticks and shoulder mounts that international tourists bring to Shibuya scramble crossing- along with ones integrated into even more drones that come with sci-fi headsets and controllers.  

Alas, (or, Predictably) the cameras which caught my eye in the massive venue did not come with propellers or shoot in 8K resolution.  In amongst the much-hyped, cutting-edge, image-capture devices I found the following, well, cameras.  

 

2026年のCP+では、動画撮影分野の進化がさらに進んでいました。より小型で高性能なカメラが、海外からの観光客が渋谷スクランブル交差点で使っていそうな、おなじみのジンバルや長いスティック、肩載せリグに取り付けられています。さらには、SF映画のようなヘッドセットやコントローラーが付属するドローンに組み込まれたものまでありました。

 

しかし（あるいは予想通り）この巨大な会場で私の目を引いたカメラたちは、プロペラもなければ8K撮影もしないものばかり。派手に持ち上げられた最先端の撮像デバイスに囲まれながら、私が見つけたのは、この「カメラ」たちでした。

 

1.

Leica M4 + Leitz Elmar 5cm 1:3.5 + Godox Lux Junior flash 

 

At a booth promoting a digital-camera based film scanner from Finland I met a man with this M4 and vintage 50mm lens. The flash is a retro-styled one from China.  A German camera at a Finnish booth with a Chinese flash in Japan- quite international. I should have asked what film he was shooting- either Kodak (American) or Ilford (British)…!

 

フィンランド製のデジタルカメラ式フィルムスキャナーを紹介しているブースで、このライカM4とヴィンテージの50mmレンズを持った男性に出会いました。フラッシュは中国製のレトロデザイン。


ドイツのカメラに、フィンランドのブース、中国のフラッシュ、そして日本。なんとも国際的です。使っているフィルムを聞けばよかったです。コダック（アメリカ）か、イルフォード（イギリス）だったのでしょうか……？

 

2.

Minolta X-700 + MD Rokkor 50mm F1.4 lens

 

In amongst all the newfangled digital stuff it was a pleasure to see this wonderful example of solid 1980’s tech, a (once) teriffically-popular Minolta X-700.  I don’t know if the designers would have ever imagined that these cameras would be continue to be used in the mid 2020s- - but I’d like to think they would be happy to see it.


最新デジタル機器だらけの中で、この80年代の堅牢な技術の結晶、かつて大ヒットしたミノルタX-700を見ることができたのは、なんとも嬉しかったです。設計者たちは、2020年代半ばになっても使われ続けているとは想像していなかったでしょう。でも、きっと喜んでくれるはず。

 

3.

Mamiya 7 + 65mm F4

 

While the larger, main floor of the Pacifico Yokohama center was dedicated to imaging manufacturers, the north hall held a sprawling book fair populated by photographers at tables with their published creations.  There were actually more film cameras in this section per-capita than the main event!  One photographer had his Mamiya 7 setup.

 

パシフィコ横浜のメインフロアがメーカー中心だった一方、北側のアネックスホールでは写真家たちが自作の出版物を並べる大規模なブックフェア（Zines Fair）が開かれていました。実は、こちらの方が一人あたりのフィルムカメラ率は高かったです。ある写真家は、マミヤ7を持っていました。

 


4.

Leica M3 + Leitz Summar 5cm F2

 

Another independent zine self-publisher had a pretty M3- - a previous owner had customized it with a coat of grayish-greenish-blue paint.  The brassed 50mm lens adds to the antique look.

 

別の自主制作ZINEの発行者は、美しいライカM3を使っていました。前のオーナーがグレーともグリーンともブルーとも言える塗装を施しています。真鍮がのぞく50mmレンズが、アンティーク感をさらに引き立てています。

 


5.

Pentax MZ-S + 28mm F2.8 AL

 

More film cameras among the zine makers- a photographer with the Nakano based gallery Kaido had this late-model Pentax.  I remember when these were new- I thought they looked quite futuristic.  They still do, today!

 

ZINE制作者はまだまだフィルムカメラが多い。中野を拠点とするギャラリー「街道」に関わる写真家は、この後期型ペンタックスを使っていました。発売当時、未来的なデザインだと思った記憶があります。今見ても、やはりそうです。

 


6.

Contax II + Jupiter 50mm F1.5 + external finder

 

Vintage Contax cameras are not nearly as common as Leicas from the same era- yet they’re beautiful and remarkably complex machines. And this one has a Soviet-era lens, too.


同時代のライカに比べると、ヴィンテージのコンタックスはかなり珍しい。美しく、驚くほど複雑な機械です。しかもこの個体には、ソ連時代のレンズが付いています。

 

7.

Various Chinese cameras

 

One of the booths at the zine fair was a young man who had self-published magazines about vintage cameras made in China.  This was the first time I had seen so many at once- looks like a rather unheralded take on camera collecting. Good for him for helping get the word out about his interest.

 

あるブースでは、中国製ヴィンテージカメラをテーマにした雑誌を自主制作している若者がいました。これほど多くを一度に見たのは初めて。あまり知られていないカメラ収集の世界です。この分野を紹介している彼を、素直に応援したくなります。

Pentax K2 + SMC Pentax DA 40mm F2.8

 

Back on the main exhibition floor I met a young man with a matching camera and t-shirt. 

 

メイン展示フロアに戻ると、カメラとTシャツが見事にお揃いの若者に出会いました。いいね。

 

9.

Nikon F3 + Nikkor 50mm F1.4

 

And soon after that, met with shoes that matched both his camera strap and the accent stripe on his Nikon F3. Nice.

 

そのすぐ後、カメラストラップとニコンF3のアクセントライン、さらには靴まで色が揃っている男性に出会いました。いいセンスです。

 

10.

Konica Gembakantoku W28

 

Rugged to the point of being nearly unbreakable- these Konicas are quite popular with film shooters today. The orange ones in particular are sought after. I certainly can see why! 

 

ほとんど壊れないのでは、と思うほどタフなこのコニカ現場監督は、今もフィルム派に人気が高い一台です。特にオレンジ色は別格。人気の理由がよくわかります。

 

11.

Olympus AF-10 Super

 

A young woman with a basic- yet capable- Olympus from 1991. It’s interesting to see how the Olympus XA’s sliding shell design was incorporated into the company’s later offerings.

 

1991年製の、シンプルながら頼れるオリンパスを使う若い女性。XAのスライド式ボディデザインが、その後のモデルにも引き継がれているのが興味深いです。

 

12.

Ricoh GR1s + custom covering 

 

This man had custom fit wood paneling to his GR.  Is it a reference to the early days of photography, with all those wooden cameras? Did he just have some leftover flooring from a kitchen renovation project? Either way, I “wood” like to see more of this.

 

この男性のGRには、特注の木製パネルが取り付けられていました。初期写真機の木製カメラへのオマージュなのか、それともキッチン改装の余り材なのか。いずれにしても、こういうのはもっと見てみたい「木」がします（笑）。

 

13.

Contax RX + Planar 50mm F1.4

 

I met a young man with this Contax SLR and then promptly forgot the model name.  The world of Porsche-designed Contax SLRs is unfamiliar to me- and with so many looking so similar, it took a little bit of Google image searching to determine exactly which one this was. I can say that, while I’ve never actually owned a Contax SLR, they’ve always been tempting. Especially with those Zeiss lenses…

 

このコンタックス一眼を持つ若者に出会ったものの、モデル名をすっかり忘れてしまいました。ポルシェデザインのコンタックスSLRは私にとって未知の世界で、似たモデルも多く、特定には少し画像検索が必要でした。実際に所有したことはありませんが、ツァイスレンズを見るたび、やはり心が揺れます。

 

14.

Mamiya C330 + Mamiya-Sekor 55mm F4.5

 

Another medium format on site! I actually owned this exact same setup back in 2007. After a few rolls and weekends I realized it wasn’t a great camera for my shooting style-  I couldn’t get used to the square format- or the bruises on my hips from carrying it on a strap slung across my chest! I am sure that this young man, however, is having a better time with his. 

 

またもや中判カメラ。実は私も2007年に、まったく同じセットを所有していました。数本撮ってみて自分の撮影スタイルには合わないと気づきました。スクエアフォーマットにも慣れず、斜め掛けで腰にアザもでき…。でも、この若者はきっと、私よりずっと楽しんでいるはずです！

 


15.

Nikon FM + 120mm 1:1 Macro

 

In 1995 Nikon released a three-piece F-mount lens kit called “Fun Fun Lens Kit”. It consisted of a 20mm, a 120mm macro, and a 400mm lens.  This is the 120 Macro, seen on an FM at the booth of a university photo club. These sets still come up on online auction sites from time to time- and for fairly cheap. Fun Fun.

 

1995年、ニコンは「おもしろレンズ工房」という3本セットを発売しました。内容は20mm、120mmマクロ、400mm。これはその120mmマクロで、大学写真部のブースにあったニコンFMに装着されていました。今でもオークションサイトで時々見かけますし、値段も意外と手頃です。
