With this being the 31st of March, a full fourth of the year is over.  Or, if you’re an optimist like me, has just begun.

 

本日の投稿は3月31日。もう今年4分の1が終了してしまった！……とみなさん思うかもしれませんが、 私のような楽観主義者なら、今年はまだまだ始まったばかりです。

 

Some cameras of note from the past few weeks:

さて、最近出会ったカメラスタイルです。

 

1.

Leica M4 Black Paint + Summilux 50mm F1.4  1st

in Ueno Park 

 

Seen in Ueno Park under the sakura, this is a gorgeous black paint Leica M4 with the first version of the 50mm f1.4 Summilux lens mounted.  Ueno Park when the cherry trees are in bloom is a good place to be with a camera.

You might have realized that this camera doesn’t have a strap- that’s because its owner usually carried it with the straps attached to the stock, polygonal Leica M4 eveready case. Note the use of the past tense.

As he was putting the camera back in the case the decades-old leather strap snapped apart- thankfully it was while the camera was firmly in both hands!  If that strap had to break, better it was then and there instead of walking down the concrete sidewalk or too close to Shinobazu pond.

 

上野公園の桜の下で見かけた、50mm F1.4 Summilux V1レンズを装着したゴージャスなブラック塗装のライカM4です。 桜が咲く上野公園は、カメラを持って出かけるのになかなか良い場所ですね。

 

このカメラにストラップがないのは、多角形のライカM4用ケースにストラップを付けて持ち歩いていたためです。「過去形」を使っているのもポイントです。この写真を撮らせていただき、彼がカメラをケースに戻すときに、何十年も使っていた革のストラップが切れてしまいました。でも大丈夫。その時、カメラを両手でしっかり持っていたので…。よかった！ もしストラップが切れるなら、コンクリートの歩道や不忍池の近くを歩くより、そのモーメントで切れたほうがよかったかも。

 

2.

Mamiya C22

 

That same afternoon I spotted the first TLR I’ve seen in public in a while- and a Mamiya C22, no less. This one had the wide-angle 55mm lens attached. Medium Format cameras are rarer on the streets but maybe less so in parks.  Hope to see more this year.

 

同じ日の午後、私は久しぶりに二眼レフを発見しました。クラシックなローライフレックスではなく、渋いマミヤC22だった。レンズは広角の55mmが装着されていました。最近、街中では中判カメラって珍しい存在ですが、公園ではそうでもないのかもしれません。 今年はもっと6×6判のカメラと出会いたいな。

Minolta SR-T101 + MC Rokkor-PF 55mm F1.7

 

Speaking of camera types I don’t see that often: vintage Minoltas. The SRT101 is a classic, and this one in particular is in near-perfect condition. This one’s got the MC Rokkor-PF 55mm f1.7 lens. (Curious as to what “PF” means, I did some google-research. It’s part of a code Minolta used to designate the number of groups and elements in their lenses. Interesting.)

 

あまり見かけないカメラの種類といえば、ヴィンテージのミノルタ一眼レフ。SRT101は名機ですが、写っているこの1台はほぼ完璧なコンディションです。レンズはMC Rokkor-PF 55mm F1.7を装着しています。ちなみに「PF」とはどういう意味なのか、ちょっとググってみました。ミノルタがレンズの群数・枚数を表すために使っていたコードだそうです。勉強になりました。

Leica M3 + Tokyo Kogaku Topcor-S 5cm F2

 

A clean Leica M3- which is always nice- but what makes this setup unique is that it’s got a Tokyo Kogaku Topcor-S 5cm f2 lens attached.

 

まずはこの綺麗なライカM3。東京光学Topcor-S 5cm F2というレンズを装着しているのが特徴的です。「Tokyo」と書いてあるレンズで東京を撮りたくなるな〜。

Leica M6 TTL + Summicron-M 35mm F2 Asph. + Godox Lux Senior Retro Camera Flash

 

A Leica M6 TTL with a 35mm f2 Summicron- a wonderful, solid setup. What’s got your eye though is the Godox Lux Senior Retro Camera Flash, seen here fully extended. Seems like it would be good at parties- certainly a conversation starter.

 

ライカM6TTLに35mm F2ズミクロンは、素晴らしいセットアップです。でも、カメラこのフラッシュの方が目立つでしょ！これは中国製の「Godox Lux Senior Retro Camera Flash」。見た目はクラシックですがUSBで充電します、便利そうです。やっぱり見た目もポイントですよね。このレトロでかわいいストロボこそ、パーティーやイベントの撮影で会話のきっかけになりそう。
