Tokyo Film Camera Style vol.40

This May installment of TCS on PCT is another mix of camera types and camera style-  and for one reason or another, features a few more SLRs than usual.  

 

今月のTokyo Film Camera Styleは、カメラの種類とスタイルがミックスされているため、いつもより一眼レフがすこし多く登場します。

 

1.

Minolta X-700 + MC Rokkor-PG 50mm F1.4 

Shinjuku


A classic, great little camera. Wikipeda says that the X-700 was in production for 18 years, only ending in 1999.  Eighteen years! Here’s to long production cycles and solid, well-made consumer products.  

Anyway- -  Tokyo Camera Style focuses on gear- but as you can see here, some people’s style extends to their bag.

 

クラシックで素晴らしいこのミノルタX-700は、Wikipedaによると、18年間販売され、1999年に生産が終了したそうです。18年間ですよ！長い生産サイクルと堅実でよくできた消費者向けの製品に万歳！ 

 

「東京カメラスタイル」ではカメラやレンズに焦点をあてていますが、このように、バッグにまでそのスタイルが及んでいる人もいるのが面白いですよね。

 

2.

Nikon F2 Photomic A +  Nikkor 50mm F1.4

It had been a while since I did a “camera style” snap in the subway!  Recently on the Chiyoda line I spotted this Nikon F2 around the neck of a man on his way somewhere. 

(I think that’s a 50mm f1.4 under the lens cap).  With film prices what they are in Japan now, I often end these encounters with a thank you and encouragement to keep shooting film.  Film’s expensive, but photographs with them can be priceless. 

 

地下鉄の車内で 「カメラスタイル 」スナップをするのは久しぶりでした！

 

東京メトロ千代田線にて、どこかに行く途中の男性の首にこのニコンF2がかかっているのを見つけました。レンズはおそらく50mm F1.4だと思われます。日本ではフィルムが高いので、私はよくこのようなカメラスタイルでの出会いにおいて「ありがとう」という言葉を添え、フィルム撮影を続けるように勧めています。フィルムは高価ですが、フィルムで撮った写真はプライスレスです。

While I wish I could say I randomly encountered this rare GF670W on the streets, it belongs to a good friend of mine. I’ve got the GF670 with the 80mm f3.5 lens (bottom) – and meeting up to see a photo exhibition, he brought his 55mm-lensed “W” version. Doing Tokyo Camera Style for almost seventeen years, I’ve seen a lot of nice cameras in person. The ONLY camera that I wish I owned- aside from a Plaubel Makina- is a GF670W…  The only real problem with these cameras is that they’re almost too easy to use. A roll of 120 film can be used in minutes! With one of these cameras in hand, there are photos everywhere around you…

 

この珍しい富士フイルムGF670Wには街で偶然出会いました…と言いたいところですが、これは私の友達のものです。私は画像下のGF670（80mm F3.5）を持っているのですが、写真展を見に行ったときに、彼は55mmレンズの「W」バージョンを持ってきていたのです。

 

東京カメラスタイルを17年近く続けてきて、たくさんのいいカメラを見てきました。プラウベルマキナをのぞけば、私が唯一「欲しいカメラ」はGF670Wなのです。このカメラを手にすれば、私の家は写真だらけになることでしょう…120フィルム1本がいつの間に撮り終わっちゃうに違いありません！

Leica M6 (New M6) +  Voigtlander Nokton 40mm F1.4 Classic

In the crowds of Harajuku on a busy Sunday afternoon I noticed a young man raise a black camera- with the tell-tale red dot- to his eye.  After he snapped the picture I stepped in and said hi. It’s always nice to see an M6 on the street.  I was likewise pleased to see that this particular M6 is one of the new ones, rereleased in 2022. (I’m partial to this particular model.) The lens is a Voigtlander 40mm f1.4 Nokton Classic- this one with an aftermarket (?) square hood. Looks sharp! 

 

日曜日の午後、原宿の雑踏の中で、私は一人の青年が赤い点が目印の黒いカメラを目に当てているのに気がつきました。 彼が写真を撮った後を見計らって、近づいて挨拶しました。街でライカM6を見かけるのは嬉しいものです。このM6は2022年に再販された新型で、レンズはフォクトレンダー Nokton 40mm F1.4 クラシック、アフターマーケットの四角いフードが付いています。見た目はなかなかクラシックでシャープです！

Nikon FE2+ Micro-Nikkor 55mm F3.5

 

The 55mm f3.5 Micro-Nikkor is, as far as I understand, something of a Cult Classic lens.  Certainly, everyone I’ve ever met with one told me how they loved theirs.  Good to see it on a clean FE2 like this! I had a chance to peek through the finder of this one at maximum close-focus- as someone who shoots a 35mm lens on a rangefinder, it was like looking at an entirely different world of photographic potential.

 

このマイクロニッコール55mm F3.5は、私が知る限り、カルトクラシックレンズのようなもの。 確かに、私がこれまで出会った同じレンズの所有者たちは皆、このレンズをすごく気に入っていると言っていました。このように状態良いニコンFE2に装着されているのを見ることができて嬉しいです。

 

レンジファインダーに35mmレンズの組み合わせで撮影している私としては、まったく別の写真の可能性を見ているようでした。面白そうです。

 

6.

Minolta CLE + M-Nikkkor 40mm F2

 

Some cameras have their own “classic” lens setups-  lenses that just feel “right” with a body. Setups like a Leica M3 & a DR 50mm Summicron, or a Pentax 6x7 with the 105mm f2.4 Super Takumar, and any Nikon SLR with a 50mm f1.4 -  Certainly the M-Rokkor 40 with a Minolta CLE is one of those legendary pairings. The owner of this one told me this camera body had recently been overhauled and is in top shape. Lovely.

 

いくつかのカメラには、そのカメラ独自の 「クラシック 」なレンズセットアップがあると思います。例えば「ライカM3とズミクロンDR50mm」「ペンタックス67とスーパータクマー105mm F2.4」、また「ニコン一眼レフと50mm F1.4」などでしょうか。

 

このカメラの所有者によると、このカメラボディは最近オーバーホールされ、最高の状態だそうです。素晴らしい！

Pentax MZ-3 + HD PENTAX-FA 43mm F1.9 Limited + Pentax AF 140 C Ring Light Macro Flash Strobe

 

First off, this lens makes me want to get a Pentax.  (I’d like an LX, but I know these MZ-3 bodies have not only more features, but far lower price tags in used camera shops.) RICOH’s website says it’s focal length and aperture matches the human eye. Interesting! Also interesting- the AF 140 C Ring flash. This is not something you come across every day. I’m curious to see what kind of pictures this photographer takes with this setup.

 

第一に、このレンズを見るとやっぱりペンタックスが欲しくなります。私はペンタックスLXが欲しいのですが、このMZ-3は機能が充実しているだけでなく、中古カメラ店での値札もはるかに安いんです。

 

リコーイメージングのウェブサイトによると、このレンズの焦点距離と絞りは人間の目にマッチしているとのこと。また、AF140 Cリングフラッシュも興味深いです。これはそうそうお目にかかれるものではありませんよ。このセットアップでどんな写真を撮るのか、興味津々です。
