Tokyo Film Camera Style vol.43 : T3 Events

For your enjoyment — and evidence that film is far from dead — here is a slew of film cameras seen at two T3 Photo Festival Tokyo events over a few hours in early October.

Where exactly? Two places that draw photographers like moths to a bare lightbulb in summer: a used camera bargain sale, and a photobook fair.

 

今回は「フィルムはまだまだ健在」である証拠として、10月上旬に行われたT3 PHOTO FESTIVAL TOKYOの2つのイベントで見かけたフィルムカメラたちを紹介します。

 

どこでかというと──。夏の裸電球に集まる蛾のように写真家たちを引き寄せる2つの場所、「中古カメラバーゲン」と「フォトブックマルシェ」です。

 

First up: “J-Camera Presents ‘Used Camera Bargain 2025’”

 

まずは、J-カメラ ポップアップショップ「中古カメラバーゲン2025」から！

 

 

Like last year, Nakano Ginza Gallery on the edge of Ginza was host to this fair sponsored by J-Camera.net and PCT. In the cozy venue were several tables from camera retailers from Tokyo and even Hokkaido. There was some nice stuff — and some good deals, too.

I didn’t spend much time at the sale — but I did see this Contax TVS in the hands of a visitor from Argentina:

 

例年同様、銀座のはずれにある中野銀座ギャラリーが、J-カメラを運営する「PCT」が主催するこのフェアの会場となりました。会場内には、東京だけでなく北海道からのカメラ販売店も出店し、魅力的な商品やお買い得な品が並びました。長居はできなかったものの、アルゼンチンからの来場者が手にしていたコンタックスTVSが目に留まりました。

Contax TVS

 

The TVS line doesn’t get as much hype online as the T2 and T3 but they’re excellent little machines.

 

コンタックスTVSシリーズは、T2やT3ほどオンラインで話題になることはありませんが、非常に優れたコンパクトカメラです。

 

 

About 15 minutes away at Tokyo Garden Square in nearby Kyobashi was the T3 Photobook Marche. I visited last year (https://photoandculture-tokyo.com/contents.php?i=4468) and sure enough, in addition to tables and tables of books by most of Tokyo’s photo community, there were a lot of different cameras around people’s necks.

 

そこから約15分ほど離れた京橋の東京ガーデンスクエアでは「T3フォトブックマルシェ」が開催されていました。昨年も訪れましたが（https://photoandculture-tokyo.com/contents.php?i=4468）、東京の写真コミュニティによる多くの写真集に加えて、来場者の首にはさまざまなカメラがかかっていました。

Pentax 17

 

I met a young photo student who entered the venue with a Pentax 17 over her shoulder. She told me she only shoots film — and hand-makes photobooks on Japanese washi paper. More power to her!

 

ペンタックス17を肩にかけて入場してきた若い写真学生に出会いました。彼女は「フィルムしか撮らない」と話し、和紙で自作のフォトブックを作っているとのこと。素晴らしいですね！

 

Ok, would it be “Tokyo Camera Style” without an M6? Here are three I saw that afternoon:

 

さて、「Tokyo Camera Style」にライカM6が登場しないわけがありません。その日の午後、3台のM6を見かけました。

 


3.  

Leica M6 Panda + Voigtlander NOKTON classic 40mm F1.4 S.C.

 

This particular “panda” M6 appeared here in my report (https://photoandculture-tokyo.com/contents.php?i=4527) on the 2024 Used Camera Bargain event. I see that the owner had personalized it with some colorful stickers since its last appearance.

 

実はこの「パンダ」M6、昨年の「中古カメラバーゲン2024」レポート（https://photoandculture-tokyo.com/contents.php?i=4527）に登場したもの。今回は所有者がカラフルなステッカーで個性を加えていました。

 


You can customize a camera through addition (applying stickers) or, as in this case, subtraction:

 

カメラのカスタマイズには、ステッカーを貼るなどの「足す」方法と、次のように「引く」方法もあります。

Leica M6 + Summaron 3.5cm F3.5

 

This M6’s current owner is about two decades younger than the camera itself! Subtraction-customization includes removing the white paint of the engraved logo and covering the iconic “Leica” red dot with some black tape. Wait a minute — is removing something by applying something an example of subtraction or addition? Either way, it’s entirely his.

 

このM6の持ち主は、カメラ本体よりもおよそ20歳若いそうです！「引く」カスタマイズとは、刻印ロゴの白塗料を削り落とし、象徴的な赤いライカマークを黒いテープで覆うこと。とはいえ「何かを貼って隠す」行為は足しているのか引いているのか…？どちらにしても、完全に彼自身のスタイルです。

Leica M6TTL + APO Summicron-M 35mm F2 ASPH

 

On the other hand, there’s something to be said for leaving a camera clean and in stock condition. This M6TTL looks like it was taken out of the box this morning — and the lens actually could have been. This is the newest version of Leica’s venerable 35mm Summicron line — and one more commonly seen on digital M bodies. I’d love to see what it does with film!

 

一方で、カメラをピカピカの状態で使うのも魅力的です。このM6TTLはまるで今朝箱から出したばかりのようです。そして実際、レンズは新品同様。このレンズはライカの定番35mmズミクロンシリーズの最新型で、通常はデジタルM機でよく見かけます。フィルムでの写りも見てみたいですね！

Voigtlander Bessa R2 + Voigtlander Heliar Classic 50mm F1.5 S.C.

 

It had been a while since I’ve been able to share a Bessa R2 with you! A (green) R2 was my first rangefinder — I bought it in 2002. This camera is over 20 years old but looks new — the lens is much younger at a mere four years old, at the oldest. Together they make a fine combination.

 

ベッサR2を紹介するのは久しぶりです！私自身、最初に買ったレンジファインダーが緑色のベッサR2で、2002年のことでした。このカメラは20年以上前のものですが新品同様。レンズは発売からまだ4年ほどしか経っておらず、非常に良い組み合わせです。

Kyocera T Zoom

 

Over the past seventeen years of Tokyo Camera Style I’ve only ever encountered one other T Zoom — and that was in 2011! These are underrated (relatively unknown?), high-quality compact cameras — It’s good to know this one is in the hands of a passionate photographer (and darkroom printer!).

 

17年間のTokyo Camera Styleの活動の中で、Tズームを見たのはこれが2台目。前回は2011年でした！あまり知られていませんが、高品質なコンパクトカメラです。熱心な写真家（しかも暗室でプリントもする人！）の手にあるのは嬉しいことですね。

 

I’ll end this column with one more compact 35mm camera:

 

最後に、もう1台のコンパクト35mmカメラでこのコラムを締めくくりましょう。

Canon Autoboy FXL

 

This is a Canon Autoboy FXL — another capable compact camera that is either forgotten — or was never really talked about in the first place. One thing I personally like about this camera is that the flash function can easily be turned off with a physical control on the top deck — no need to push a tiny little rubber nubbin in every time, like the Konica Big Mini or Olympus Mju II. Fittingly for this column, the owner had purchased this very camera a two hours earlier at the Used Camera Bargain sale for a mere 3000 yen. A bargain, indeed!

 

こちらはキヤノン・オートボーイFXL。性能の高いコンパクトカメラですが、忘れられているか、もともとあまり話題にならなかったモデルです。私が特に気に入っている点は、上部の物理スイッチで簡単にフラッシュをオフにできるところ。コニカ・ビッグミニやオリンパスμⅡのように、毎回小さなゴムボタンを押す必要はありません。

 

ちなみにこのカメラ、オーナーはたった2時間前に「中古カメラバーゲン」で3,000円で購入したそうです。まさにバーゲンな物！
