Tokyo Film Camera Style vol.29 :Ueno Park

Cherry blossom season! Each spring when the sakura appear I’m always a bit surprised at how many cherry trees are in Tokyo- and how many cameras.   I spent most of Sakura season in Ueno Park- here are a few film cameras I saw there.


桜の季節ですね！毎年春になると「あれ？東京ってこんなに桜の木があるんだ」と驚かされます。

また、上野公園の桜を撮る人の数を見て思うのです。「あれ？東京ってこんなにカメラがあるんだ」。

今年の春のほとんどを上野公園でぶらぶらパチパチ撮り過ごした私、そこで見かけたフィルムカメラをいくつか紹介しましょう。

 

1.

Fujifilm TX-1 + SUPER EBC FUJINON TX45mm F4

 

This Fujifilm TX-1 was around the neck of a visitor from Korea. I’ve never owned a panorama camera like this but personally, rather than the cherry trees in Ueno Park I’d enjoy using one to photograph the vast crowds below. 

 

この富士フイルムTX-1は韓国人観光客のカメラです。パノラマカメラですね。私はこのようなパノラマカメラを使ったことがありませんが、個人的には上野公園の桜よりも、眼下に広がる大群衆を撮影するのに使ってみたいです。

 

2.

Asahi Pentax Spotmatic F + SMC TAKUMAR 55mm F1.8

 

Around the neck of a young art student from China I spotted this Pentax Spotmatic F. The lens is a 55mm f1.4  SMC Takumar.  He told me that the character attached to the hotshoe is what he told me is a Chinese cartoon character. 

 

中国から日本の美術学校に留学している学生の首からさがっていたのは、ペンタックス スポットマチックF。レンズはSMCタクマー55mm F1.4です。ホットシューに付いているのは中国のキャラクターだと教えてくれました。

Canon Autoboy Luna

 

This is a Canon Autoboy Luna- a fairly advanced compact camera from the mid 1990s.  In the river of people on the park’s main thoroughfare I spotted it around the neck of a young man out with his girlfriend. It’s interesting how overlooked this era of compact 35mm cameras were until just a few years ago- their chunky 90’s design elements are suddenly cool again. I know from experience this is a very good camera, too.

 

これはキヤノンのオートボーイ ルナです。1990年代半ばに発売された、当時かなり先進的だったコンパクトカメラです。上野公園の中央道の人波の中で、若い男性の首にかけているのを見つけました。ほんの数年前まで、この時代の35mmコンパクトカメラは見過ごされていましたが、90年代っぽいダサかっこいいデザインは今すこし見直されているのだと実感します。やっぱり可愛いね。令和Z世代の平成レトロ！

 

4.

Leica M4-P + Summicron 35mm F2 (2nd)


Near Shinobazu pond I met two young men with Leicas. The first had this clean Leica M4-P with a 35mm F2 Summicon lens  (Version 2). He pointed out that the setup was all made in Canada.

 

不忍池の近くで、ライカを持っている二人の男子と出会いました。一人目はこの非常に綺麗なライカM4-Pを持っていました。レンズはズミクロンM 35mm F2（第2世代）。このセットはカナダ製なのだと教えていただきました。

 

5.

Leica M3 + Summicron-M 50mm F2

Leica M10 Monochrom

 

The other young man had this early Leica M3 with a 50mm f2 Summicron lens. He had it paired with a Digital Leica M10 Monochrom. 

 

もう一人は初期のライカM3とズミクロンM 50mm F2のセットを持っていました。首から下がったデジタルカメラはライカM10モノクロームでした。

6.

Leica M6 + Summicron 50mm F2 (4th) 

Pentax 645N + FA645 75mmF2.8


I met this young man with a Leica M6 and a Pentax 645N medium format SLR. He kindly reminded me that we had actually met before, in Shinjuku. I enjoy seeing 35mm cameras paired with medium format ones like this.

 

ライカM6とペンタックス654Nを持っていた男子と出会いました。このように35mmと中判カメラをペアリングする人はかっこいいですね。私もやるんですが、撮影のバランスが個人的に難しいです。撮りたくなるコトやモノを見つけて、まずカメラを選ばないといけない！

 

I spent several days wandering around Ueno Park this year and it seemed far more crowded than usual. I didn’t see as many film cameras as I had hoped- I did see many, many more Nikon Zf setups than I expected. The Fujifilm X-100 series seemed popular among Korean and Chinese tourists- as did mid 2000’s compact digital cameras.  Like the cherry blossoms themselves, everything old is new again- the circle of life. 

 

今年は上野公園を数日間歩き回ったのですが、例年よりはるかに混雑しているように感じました。期待していたほど多くのフィルムカメラは見かけなかったものの、カメラを持っていた人が多くてよかったです。特にニコンZ fのセットアップは予想以上に多く見かけました。富士フイルムのX-100シリーズは韓国や中国の観光客に人気があるようです。2000年代半ばのコンパクトデジタルカメラも同様ですね。 桜の花のように、古いものは新しく生まれ変わるんですかね…。
