The following five cameras were spotted on an unseasonably warm February weekend-  the first four on the same afternoon. A nice mix of formats- I think you’ll like it.

 

今回の東京フィルムカメラスタイルは不思議ぐらい暖かい2月の週末で見たカメラです。最初の4台は同じ土曜日に出会ったもの。フォーマットやメーカーがいろいろあって、やっぱりフィルムカメラのバラエティはいつ何度みても面白いですね。

 

1.

Ricoh GR1

 

One of the must-see photography exhibitions of 2024 is the massive Nakahira Takuma retrospective “Burn Overflow” at the Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo.  A good friend and I went to see it together- he brought along his well-used Ricoh GR1.  Nearly every visitor in the museum had a camera over their shoulders-  sadly though I didn’t see a Canon F-1 like the one Nakahira used.  I wonder where his cameras are now?  The exhibition was excellent but perhaps would have been even better if they had his cameras on display as well.

 

突然ですが、2024年に必ず見るべき写真展と言えば、間違いなく東京国立近代美術館で開催中の「中平卓馬　火―氾濫」です。私は2月の土曜日、友人と一緒に見に行きました。その友人はリコーのGR1を持参していました。館内ではほぼ全員がカメラを肩にかけていたものの、中平さんが使っていたようなキヤノンF-1は残念ながら見かけませんでした。 そういえば、中平さんのカメラはどこに保存されているのでしょうか…。展示はもちろん素晴らしかったのですが、中平さんのカメラも展示されていたらもっと良かったかもしれませんね。

Exiting the Nakahira show I ran into my pal Felix in the museum lobby. He had his Leica Monochrom and a Minolta CL with the 40mm F2 Summicron-C lens. Always nice to run into friends in Tokyo- surprisingly for a city this size it’s more common than you might think.  Photographers tend to gather in the same spots. 

 

中平さんの展示室を出ると、美術館のロビーで偶然友人のフェリックスに会いました。彼はその時、35mmF2のズミクロンMレンズを付けたライカモノクロームと、ミノルタCLに40mm F2ズミクロンCレンズを付けた"二刀流"でした。東京で友人に会うのはいつも嬉しい気持ちになりますが、この規模の都市では意外とよくあることです。 東京の写真好きはだいたい同じ場所に集まる傾向があるのです。

 Mamiya 7Ⅱ + Mamiya N 80mm F4L

 

After leaving MOMAT my friend and I walked through Kitanomaru Park, past the Budokan, and on down Yasukuni-dori to a tantanmen shop (Seito Masamune Tantanmen Tsujita

) I wanted to show him.  A few dozen meters before we got to the shop I met an Australian man with this mint-condition Mamiya 7II over his shoulder.  A good choice for his trip- these make great travel cameras. 

 

 

東京国立近代美術館を出た後、友人と私は北の丸公園を抜け、武道館を通り過ぎ、靖国通りを歩いて「成都正宗担々麺 つじ田」へと向かいました。ラーメン屋に着く数十メートル手前で、このマミヤ7Ⅱを肩にかけたオーストラリア人男性に出会いました。このマミヤはなかなかいいトラベルカメラですよ。（壊れて「トラブルカメラ」になっちゃうけどね…笑）

Olympus PEN-F + F.Zuiko Auto-S 38mm F1.8


After a spicy but tasty lunch I made my way solo up to Yushima Tenjin for the annual plum blossom festival. Amongst the plum trees and iphones I spotted a young man with this Olympus Pen F around his neck. These remain very popular cameras! I have always wanted one.

 

ピリ辛のランチを食べ終わると、私は一人で湯島天神へ訪ねました。2月はずっと梅まつりが開催されているのでスナップがしたかったのです。梅の花の中、このオリンパスペンFを首から下げた若者を見つけました。“This is a Pen!”  相変わらず人気のカメラ！

Leica M2 & Summilux-M 50mm F1.4 ASPH.

CONTAX T2


The final entry for this week was snapped during a quick meetup with an American pal visiting Tokyo.  He came to Japan with his Leica M2 & 50mm Summilux lens and, thanks to the combination of Tokyo’s camera availability and the strong dollar, left this week with the Ricoh GR1s and Contax T2 seen in the picture. Hope he had a good trip!  (That exchange rate sure helped, I’m sure!)

 

今週最後のエントリーは、東京を訪れているアメリカの友人と会ったときに撮った三刀流カメラスタイル。 彼はライカM2と50mmズミルックスを持って来日したのですが、東京の豊かなカメラ事情と「ドル高」のおかげで、このリコーGR1sとコンタックスT2を新たに携え、今週帰国しました。いいお土産ですね！
